Learner guide for Moodle use

UPM account

To access online services offered by tne University, you need your UPM user account. It has an associated institutional e-mail address @alumnos.upm.es, already enable for the enrolment. You can manage it in email address management section on the UPM website.

Intranet

UPM account allows you to access the Intranet, that centralizes all UPM services.

On this portal, you can view your academic progress and completed milestones, check your academic life, access to email, Moodle platform and e-Office services, and more.

Access to Official Degrees

The UPM e-learning Institutional Platform for official subjects is Moodle.

To access to your official subjects, you can go to the UPM Tele-Education Platforms, and choose Official Degrees. 

or access through the Intranet.

Not all subjets are hosted on Moodle. You should confirm this with your teachers.

Once in Moodle, your Personal Area is displayed. It provides information of all the subjects hosted on the platform. You can access your subjects from the My courses menu at the top.

Inside each subject, in the central area you will find materials and tools, and the right area may contain blocks like the calendar, recent announcements, upcoming events, activities, etc. Depending on what the teacher chooses to show. 

To access the rmaterials or activities, just click on the link that appears in the central area of the subject.

• In case of resources, you will open a Word, a PDF, a video file, etc. 
• In tasks, a window will open displaying the instructions and allowing you to submit your work, directly from platform or uploading one or more files.
• With quizzes, if there is a time limit, you must think that it will start when you push start button, without stopping at any time.
• In forums, you can open new discussion topics or answer already opened conversation. If it is the Announcements forum, what the techer posts will be sent to your email.

If the Study Centre enables it, you have some subjects to self-study and self-evaluation in Starting Point, that appear with official subjects, where you will find help in reinforcing your knowledge in those areas related to the studies you are about to begin. In PI_ENGLISH you can find the English levelling test. 

Other e-learning services

Microsoft 365

UPM has an educational Microsoft 365 license that allows access to different cloud enabled services including:

• OneDrive: up to 50GB of cloud storage capacity.
• SharePoint: for document management and collaborative work.
• Teams: used for teamwork and videoconferencing.

To access these services, you must go to Microsoft 365 webpage.

Zoom

UPM also provides access to a licensed version of Zoom, a cloud-based videoconferencing tool. It is integrated in Moodle to facilitate access to online classes and their recordings. 

To join the meetings, when you are in the subject in Moodle, click on the Zoom videoconference activity link and click the Enter button. You can use the browser or the Zoom app.

You also have the Zoom license available in UPM Zoom. It is not necessary or mandatory unless you want to create meetings.
